The Consortium is always looking for volunteers to help us with basic office responsibilities – answering phones, preparing mailings, working the front desk, etc. If you have a flexible daytime schedule, please let us know. Any time you can volunteer would be greatly appreciated. Contact Scott MacKenzie, Director of Communications and Special Events, if you are interested or have any questions.
The Consortium’s special events throughout the year present numerous volunteer opportunities as well. Most events require a lot of work in the planning stages in addition to staffing the actual event. When you contact John, please provide any relevant information about when you are available to volunteer, and please mention any specific skills you may be able to provide. We do our best to match your skills and interests with the opportunities available.
For instance, you might be a photographer who could take pictures at the annual WOW Awards Celebration. Maybe you work at a restaurant and you can help us secure an in-kind donation for an event? Do you work at a school or business that could form a team for the AIDS Walk and you could act as the team captain? There are many ways you can help!
The following events require volunteers:
WOW Awards Celebration
Planning begins in the winter and the event usually takes place in April or May.
Volunteers needed before event: securing silent auction donations, in-kind food/beverage donations, selling tickets, setting up event and decorations, picking up donations and making deliveries, stuffing envelopes and assisting with mailings, preparing signs and decorations.
Volunteers needed during the event: Servers and wait staff, band/entertainment, photographer, silent auction attendants, guest registration, silent auction checkout and clean-up help.
AIDS Walk Delaware
Planning begins in the late spring/early summer and the AIDS Walks are held in late September or early October.
Volunteers needed before event: Help with building teams, hanging AIDS Walk posters, calling team captains, seeking sponsors, and other general event planning duties.
Volunteers needed during event: Help with event set-up and clean-up, crossing guard/route attendants, help with walker registration and handing out prizes, and much more.
To volunteer for the AIDS Walk, please contact Iris McKenney at AIDS Delaware, (302) 652-6776.
“Easy As Pie” Thanksgiving Fundraiser
Planning begins in August/September and the distribution of the pies takes place on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (November).
Volunteers needed before event: Help with promoting pie sales and getting new schools and churches to join the fundraiser, attending events to promote the fundraiser and take orders for pies, hanging posters, help with mailings.
Volunteers needed during event: Pick up pies from local bakers on Tuesday before Thanksgiving, deliver pies to distribution centers, hand out pre-purchased pies for the Consortium at our distribution location in the Community Service Building’s parking garage.
In addition to these three main fundraisers we have additional programs and events that occur throughout the year that could always use volunteer help. We have occasional mailings that may require folding papers and stuffing envelopes, and applying address labels and stamps.
After having read through this information, please contact Scott MacKenzie, Director of Development & Communications, with your interests, skills and availability or call 302-654-5471.
Thank you in advance for your interest in furthering the mission of the Delaware HIV Consortium.
