Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling

Description: This two-day workshop (March 17 and 18) is designed to improve the ability of providers in a variety of settings to support individuals in making behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV.

Target Audience: *Contractors *HIV/AIDS Care Providers *Persons providing HIV Counseling & Testing
Prerequisites: Must have Counseling and Testing skills or experience; HIV/AIDS 101; must have a basic knowledge of HIV transmission, prevention, etc.

Program Requirements:
Objectives and Comments: *State (verbally and in writing) and apply in practice sessions the fundamental counseling concepts and skills in HIV prevention counseling. *Identify (verbally and in writing) 5 factors that influence behavior and apply practice session skills used in HIV prevention counseling to elicit influences on client behavior and to develop client action plans with referrals. *Demonstrate through practice sessions all the steps of HIV prevention counseling.
